Aishwarya Rai
Aishwarya Rai was born on November 1, 1973 in Mangalore, India to Krishnaraj Rai, a marine engineer, and Vrinda Rai, a writer. When Rai was four years old, her family shifted to Bombay. In 1994, the actress won the Miss World crown. Rai has one elder brother, Aditya Rai.
In 1997, Aishwarya starred in her first Tamil film “Iruvar”. Same year, Rai was cast in her first Hindi film “Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya”. Aishwarya won Best Actress Award for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999). In 2002, the actress starred in the major box-office successful film “Devdas” and also won the Filmfare Best Actress Award.
Ash became the first Indian actress to be a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003 and also the first Indian actress to be interviewed on “60 Minutes” in 2005. In 2006, Aishwarya appeared in two Hindi films: Umrao Jaan and Dhoom 2.
In 2004, Aishwarya became the first Indian actress to have her wax figure at London’s Madame Tussauds museum. Ash has pledged to donate her beautiful eyes and is also a supporter of PETA. Rai is married to Indian actor Abhishek Bachchan.
