Tall with a dusky complexion, Shilpa began her modeling career at the age of 16. In 1993, Shetty had a supporting role in film “Baazigar” and was also nominated for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. In 1994, Shilpa got her first leading role in the film “Aag”.

In 2000, Shilpa was nominated for Best Actress Award for her role in the film “Dhadkan”. Her performance in the film “Phir Milenge” was highly appreciated and she won Giant International Award, Special Award and AAHOA Award.
On 28 January 2007, Shilpa was declared as the winner of the United Kingdom reality television series “Celebrity Big Brother”. The actress is an AIDS activist and PETA supporter.
